Abstract

This article proposes a reading of the second part of the «Epístola a fray Plácido de Tosantos» by Lope de Vega, included in La Circe (1624), a section that deals with historiographical matters and establishes a canon of good Spanish historians versus wicked foreign historians. Firstly, the authors Lope mentions will be identified and the reasons for their inclusion in the list will be explained. Secondly, the questions on historiographical theory that Lope tackles in the epistle will be analyzed within the context of his general work.
