Abstract

Gregorio Mayan’s attitude towards the codification of Spanish provides data about the traditional or innovative nature of his proposals for the reform of the Spanish letters in the eighteenth century. These data include issues such as the analysis of Mayan’s criticism towards the works of the Royal Spanish Academy, his proposal for the fixation of standard Spanish orthography or his assessment of French rationalist grammar.
